Abstract
In recent decades, research on linguistic variation has become relevant. Along with the problem of lexical variation, some publications, in particular on the material of Germanic languages, examine the phenomenon of so-called linguistic differentiation. The study of language variation as a linguistic phenomenon, which should be distinguished from language differentiation, is considered relevant. In the "Word-Formation Dictionary of A.N. Tikhonov", examples of differential forms as initial words of word-formation nests are indicated by different stylistic marks. This article examines the representation of linguistic differentiation in this dictionary.
