Abstract

This article extensively covers historical sources and their types, showing the theoretical and practical importance of studying sources in historical science. It is substantiated that various written, material, oral, and visual sources are an important tool for a deep understanding of historical processes, their objective assessment, and the disclosure of historical truth. The author divided the sources into primary and secondary types, analyzing the place and possibilities of each of them in historical research. It also discusses the formation of historical thinking, the inextricable link between historical science and other social sciences, the methodology of historiography, and the culture of working with sources when evaluating historical events. The article serves as a useful theoretical foundation for students, researchers, and those interested in history.
